Men and Pants

Okay, I need a little help here. Today when I walked into my favorite quaint restaurant, I noticed something that I've never seen before. Standing at the counter was a very large man. Probably at least 6-feet 4-inches. Masculine features. The odd thing about it was that he was wearing a skirt.

One may be wondering if the person in question was really a man. After all, initially all I could see was the back of this person. And I noticed the long, flowing, black hair, and yes ... that tan skirt. Perhaps the person standing at the counter was indeed a very tall and overweight female.

But as soon as he turned around to secure a seat, my observation was correct, and I couldn't help but notice his dark mustache.

Men just don't wear skirts in the small conservative town where I live. They just don't.

My husband was with me, so after sitting down at a small table together, I asked his opinion. The only reason he could think of was that the man was so large that finding comfortable pants wasn't possible. Men really do that when they have no other option?

So, my question is this: Why do you think this man dressed in this manner? I truly am not trying to judge, and please forgive me if I sound judgmental. I am just very perplexed as to why he would go out in public like that. Any thoughts?

Well. Interesting. I'm sure skirts are more comfortable for a huge person than pants. You said he is 6'4". And he's very large. You may have to be more specific. Would that be large like 300 pounds? Or large like 450+. I didn't intend to answer this first, but I keep having such funny pictures in my mind of the guy.

When the rainbow people were in town, I saw a fair number of men in skirts. Yesterday, at school, I saw a boy in a skirt. I know that there were other students lined up against the wall waiting for a classroom to empty. I know that they were all craning their necks as their eyes followed this boy down the hall.

I don't know. I guess that I don't give it much thought. It is what it is. And it isn't my husband or boys in the skirt, so I don't have to have an opinion on it. That's for his wife, and his mother.

I guess also another thing to consider is this. Some people just like to have everyone look at them. It gives him a stage to make impassioned speeches about personal freedom and sexual identities, etc.

Dunno.

I can't say why this fellow chose to wear a skirt, but I know that's something you don't see often in my small southern town.

Funny how we react, too. You know, it's only because it's the "norm" in our society that we even question something like this. Look back through history. For that matter, kilts are still acceptable in places.

I would have been highly entertained at the sight. (and I don't mean that in an offensive way....I'm just easily entertained)

I just hope it's not a coming new fashion for men. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I'd like to see skinny, hairy legs sticking out from a skirt. The men and boys I know certainly don't sit in a way that would work with a skirt!

I have to tell you. I thought of you yesterday, Karen. I saw a young man in a black skirt. I thought of you right away. And I smiled.
